Troy Buchanan Trojans: 2021-2022 sports year in review

The Troy Buchanan Trojans had a strong 2021-2022 athletic season, highlighted by an individual wrestling title, the football team’s trip to the state semifinals and multiple district titles. 

Brett Smith won a state wrestling title at 170 pounds. 

The Trojan football team finished the season 10-3 and advanced to the Class 6 state semifinals. They beat Fort Zumwalt West 54-21 and Hazelwood Central 34-22 to advance to the state quarterfinals. They topped Francis Howell 23-21 on a late fourth quarter touchdown to advance to the state semifinals. They fell to Liberty North 35-21 in the state semifinals. 

The Trojan girls basketball and softball teams won district titles last season. The girls basketball team defeated Liberty (Wentzville) 43-13 and Ft. Zumwalt South 53-47 to advance to the district championship game. They topped Fort Zumwalt West 37-27 to win the district crown. They fell to Incarnate Word Academy in the first round of the state tournament.

The softball team Class 5, District 4 title. They knocked off Fort Zumwalt South 5-1 and Timberland 4-0 to win the district title. They lost a 3-2 game to Francis Howell Central in the first round of the state tournament. The game went 12 innings. 

The boys basketball team also had a strong season, finishing with a 22-5 record. They lost to Fort Zumwalt South 60-59 in the district championship game. They beat Timberland and Holt by 18 or more points each to advance to the district title game.

The Trojans had two athletes place at the state track and field meet. Sophomore Jlynn Humphrey finished fifth in the discus competition. Senior Kinsey Dueker was seventh in both the 100-meter hurdles and triple jump.
