Silex Owls: 2021-2022 sports year in review

The Silex Lady Owl softball team finished last season 20-3 and won a district title. The Lady Owls beat Clopton and Van Far to win the Class 1, District 8 title. They beat Northeast (Cairo) 10-0 in the first round of the state tournament. They lost to St. Elizabeth 7-3 in the state quarterfinals. 

The Silex baseball and girls basketball teams reached the district championship game last season. The Owl baseball team finished the season with a 9-10 record and won two games in the Class 2, District 5 tournament. They beat Paris 11-3 and Westran 5-3. They lost to Louisiana 7-3 in the district title game. 

The Lady Owl girls basketball team finished the season 15-10. They beat Sturgeon 43-30 in the Class 2, District 5 semifinals. They lost to Northeast (Cairo) 60-38 in the district final. 

The Owls had athletes qualify for state in cross country, boys golf and track. 

Carter Johnson qualified for state in golf. He finished in 28th place with a two-day score of 177. 

Freshmen McKenna Claiborne and Klaire Thoroughman qualified for the state cross country meet. Claiborne finished in 44th place. Thorooughman followed in 130th place. 

Thorougman also competed in multiple events at the state track meet. She finished in sixth place in both the 100-meter hurdles and triple jump. Abagail Mooney, who was a sophomore, placed fourth in the pole vault. She also competed at state in the 400-meter dash, high jump and triple jump. Karlie Ellis, Tayah Williams, Cole Fessler and Jake Henry also competed at the state meet.
