Elsberry Indians: 2021-2022 sports year in review

Elsberry High School had a strong athletics year last school year, with multiple teams winning district titles. 

The Elsberry baseball, softball and girls basketball teams all won district titles to qualify for the state tournament. The Indian baseball team finished 18-12 and won the Class 3, District 5 title. They beat STEAM Academy 17-0 and Duchesne 10-2 to win the district title. The Indians defeated Palmyra 9-3 in the first round of the Class 3 state tournament. They lost to Father Tolton Regional Catholic 6-3 in the state quarterfinals. 

The Elsberry softball team finished last season with a 19-8 record. They won the Class 2, District 4 crown. They defeated Brentwood 15-0 and Bishop DuBourg 8-0 in the first two rounds of the district tournament. They beat Valley Park 11-0 to win the district title. The Indians lost to New Bloomfield 7-6 in sectionals.

The Elsberry girls basketball team finished the season 16-12 and won the Class 3, District 5 title. They fell to South Shelby 52-28 in the first round of the state tournament. 

The Indian boys basketball team also had a strong season. They finished the season 21-5, the best winning percentage among all Indian athletic programs. They lost to Louisiana in the first round of the district tournament. 

Senior Josiah Heras and junior Dashaun Dodson both finished in the top-42 in the state cross country meet. Dodson placed 35th. Heras placed 42nd. Dodson and Heras placed at the state track and field meet. Heras placed fifth in the 400-meter dash.  Dodson placed seventh in the triple jump.
